Deciding whether to use curtains or blinds in your home is a difficult choice. Or is it really? When it comes to the decision between blinds and curtains, curtains win every time. In my opinion window blinds should only be seen in offices and in your doctor’s waiting room. They’re functional in design and nature. For the house and home curtains are always the best option. They add character to your house and can be used with any sort of interior decor. Here’s a few of the reasons why window blinds will never be seen inside my house and why I favor curtains. Health Blinds ought to have a warning on them that they can be a hazard to your health. With more and more people being affected by dust allergies and asthma trying to keep your house as dust free as you possibly can is a must. Keeping window blinds free from airborne dirt and dust can be an impossible job that quickly becomes a real drag. Curtains on the other hand don’t attract dust and a quick vacuum once a week is sufficient to keep them clean. Insulation If your heating bill is a worry for you( and it is for pretty much everyone these days) curtains are the sensible choice. Curtains are a good way of insulating a room and keeping heat in. The insulation qualities of blinds are about the same as a sheet of newspaper. Style One reason that a lot of people decide on curtains rather than blinds is how they look. There’s a huge range of materials you can decide on and hundreds of different shades, patterns and colours which will complement any kind of interior decoration you may have. Curtains add some character and personality to your room. All window blinds do is stop light from getting in. Whilst they do what they are supposed to they aren’t particularly aesthetically pleasing on the eye. Bay Windows If you want to ruin the lovely effect of your bay windows go ahead and put in blinds there. No don’t. Instead go looking for a nice curtain pole that can be used to hang a gorgeous set of curtains from. This makes sure that your house doesn’t look like an office in any way at all. Reliability With regards to the question of reliability there is only one winner. Blinds are well known for getting tangled, breaking or getting stuck when you wish to move them. The mechanisms used in some varieties of blinds particularly Venetians are very prone to failure. Curtains are simple to take care of and use and there is very little that can go wrong with them. Those are just a few reasons why I will always prefer curtains for my home. Blinds are fine for the office or general public buildings but anywhere else curtains will almost always be better.
